Are YOU Drinking Enough Water?

Our bodies are about 70% water, but because we don’t drink enough water that could get down to about 40 to 50%.

The most common signs of not enough water include headache, dark urine, fatigue and dry skin.

By the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

Not drinking enough water will elevate chronic inflammation and that means it’s going to be very difficult if not impossible for fat loss to happen.

The Silver Spring study in Obesity found that drinking enough water was “associated with significant loss of body weight and fat over time”, also increasing metabolism and lowering appetite.

The following are some reasons to drink enough water, that make it very important when you want to have glowing skin, burn fat or build muscle:

1. If you are low on water you can’t detoxify properly. Waste is flushed from the cells by water, except when dehydrated. Then the water is taken from the blood, which stresses the heart and won’t allow the kidneys to cleanse the blood. Toxins then build up to the point of constipation.

2. When you don’t drink enough water it can raise the stress hormones. Dehydration is believed, by some experts, to be the number one cause of stress. When your level hydration drops 1 or 2%, this is enough to elevate the level of Cortisol (aka: stress hormone). Some of the jobs of Cortisol is that it breaks down muscle tissue and stores fat around our midsection.

3. Muscle recovery and maintenance are helped by proper hydration. The muscle is about 75% water, which is why with a small amount of hydration (3%) you can lose up to 15% strength. Proper hydration replaces electrolytes lost and reduces exercise related inflammation.

4. Your skin can have that healthy glow with enough water. Your body’s biggest organ is the skin, which is also the largest detoxification organ. We sweat and it evaporates all the time to remove waste and cleanse the skin. When not enough water is consumed, waste builds up, which leads to acne, breakouts and other problems. It also means that less new Collagen will be created and then the skin will get fragile with little elasticity.

5. Eating less at meals is helped by water consumption. 8 ounces of water before a calorie-reduced meal showed greater fat loss than those that did not drink the water before the meal, according to Obesity (Silver Spring). The American Chemical Society’s annual conference had a study presented that showed 2 – 8 ounce glasses of water before meals, people reported an average of 15.5 pounds lost. People who didn’t drink the water only lost about 10.5 pounds.

6. Cravings can be lowered with water. Hunger is sometimes the body’s way of saying it needs water! Those hunger pangs late at night can possibly be cured by a drink of water.

7. Fatigue can be created by dehydration. Your blood volume goes down, fluid balance is upset and metabolism comes to a halt without enough water. Becoming lazy, having mental fog and headaches are some of the results. So you think you just need more coffee . . . Not So Fast . . . it will only dehydrate you more, as caffeine has duiretic properties.

GMO vs Good Food: Who wins?

 

On a recent trip to the grocery store, I took the time to not only do my usual food label reading but to try to smell the produce.

 

I picked up a bunch of organic bananas and was pleasantly surprised, they actually smelled like bananas, like the ones I grew up eating, while the regular bananas had no aroma that I could detect.

 

The organic apples had a great smell of the apples like those grown decades ago had. Same thing happened with the organic oranges, they smelled as if I went back in time. Now the regular apples and oranges either did not have an aroma or smelled of something other than what they were supposed to smell like.

 

The more a person researches the more they find out about what they are searching for answers about. We are told that we need to consume vegetables and fruit to be and remain healthy.

 

We know that what ever a plant grows in will effect the “fruit” of the plant, so it makes sense that the “fruit” will have in it what is put on the plant or on the soil.

 

This is old school, now we have GMO or Genetically Modified Organism to deal with.

 

What are GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms”? They are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.

 

Does this sound like something you should be eating?

 

Basically all commercial GMOs are designed to be able to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or manufacture its own insecticide. The industry says that the GMO features on the market does not; increase yield, drought resistance, increase nutrition or benefit the consumer in any other way.

 

As more studies are completed it becomes clear that there is a growing connection between GMOs and health problems, damage to the environment and violation of consumer and farmer rights.

 

Let’s see, are GMOs safe to consume? GMOs are not considered to be safe by most of the developed countries. All countries in the European Union, Australia and Japan to name a few of the more than 60 countries worldwide that have strict restrictions or downright bans on sale or production of GMOs.

 

Here’s the interesting part, the corporations that made the GMOs did the studies that they in turn provided the government with so that the GMOs would be approved and amazingly enough the GMOs were approved by the U.S. government.

 

It appears that the corporations that make the GMOs think that they are so wonderful that they threaten a law suit when a state tries to make it mandatory to list the GMO ingredients on the food product label.

 

Now when a company doesn’t want an ingredient or ingredients listed on the label that really throws up a gigantic red flag hollering “WTF, This cannot be healthy for us to consume this, the company doesn’t even believe its own advertising.”

 

How long did the creator of the GMOs think they could hide the truth from the public?

 

I’ve noticed a lot more cases of food allergies and intolerance to several foods over the last 20+ years compared to the years before the GMOs.

 

When it comes to organic, basically it means that the crops were produced without any irradiation, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge,genetically modified organisms or prohibited pesticides.

 

Now we come to animals, eggs, poultry and dairy products that are labeled organic, this means that the animal was healthy and not abused or mistreated, they had free access to the outside, 100% organic feed, NO growth hormones or antibiotics were used.

 

We all know at least down deep we know that in order to remain healthy we need good high quality food, free of chemical enhancers and additives, chemical preservatives, antibiotics, growth hormones and this all I could think of.

 

Good Food produced/grown the way Mother Nature intended it to be, without the corporation additives to add more profit to their bottom line.

Ab Workouts Do Not Cause Stomach Fat Loss

It seems that everyone is always asking me what the best ab workouts are
to get a flatter stomach. The common belief that ab workouts will help you
to lose belly fat is one of the biggest misconceptions I deal with daily
as a fitness professional. Almost everyone has varying degrees of excess
body fat in the abdominal region, and the best way to burn off that extra
stomach fat continues to elude most.

The problem is that most people are searching for the wrong exercises and
workout types to lose stubborn belly fat. Most people are searching for
some miraculous combination of abs exercises combined into the best ab
workout ever invented that will burn off their belly fat faster than you
can read this article.

Unfortunately, ab-specific workouts do NOT burn fat off of your belly.
They only tone and strengthen the underlying abdominal muscles. What you
really need to focus on is a full body strategic workout that will cause
a much greater metabolic rate increase and fat-burning hormonal response
from your training program as a whole.

In addition, simply doing cardiovascular workouts will not necessarily
create the greatest metabolic response or hormonal response either. What
you really need is a much more rounded training program that focuses on
training the entire body with resistance training and multi-joint
exercises in a higher intensity fashion.

This type of high intensity full body training combined with a healthy
balanced diet full of nutrient density on a regular basis, is the real
key secret to losing the extra stomach fat that covers up the abs. This
is a much better plan of attack than just trying to do ab workouts and
hoping that just doing a bunch of ab exercises like crunches and leg
raises are going to make you lose your belly fat.

The amazing thing is that the majority of the population still believes
that in order to get rid of belly fat, you need to do ab workouts every
day using hundreds of reps. I see people giving this type of erroneous
advice every day on all of the fitness forums. Please do not waste your
time with this type of advice!

Now before you say “how can an abs expert not recommend abdominal exercises”,
realize that I do strongly believe that a certain amount of ab-specific
exercises mixed into your routines are beneficial. Ab exercises will help
you strengthen and tone the abdominal muscles and are useful for other
purposes such as a healthy back and posture when done correctly. But the
fact remains that ab exercises are not necessary for fat loss.

A much smarter full body resistance training routine and a clean healthy
balanced diet are the most important factors. Many of the full body exercises
also indirectly work the abdominals and core due to the stabilization
required in some of the more difficult variations.
